An overview of HOTM's projects and campaigns since 2014, from a single venue in Brussels to a nationwide network.
Le Space was a venue in Brussels for art, debate and book presentations. It hosted events together with KVS, Kaaitheater and Kunstenfestivaldesarts, and became a meeting point for artists, activists and organizers. Several of HOTM's later campaigns started from conversations and events held at Le Space.
This campaign responded to comments made by then State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken about the headscarf. It defended the right of women to decide for themselves whether to wear one, and was launched together with the collective Together for Dignity, formed in response to the same comments.
Artist Laura Nsengiyumva created the character Queen Nikkolah as an alternative to the traditional Sinterklaas story, which she and others have criticized for its racial stereotyping. Queen Nikkolah events started at Le Space and later took place at Muntpunt and several venues in Ghent.
Mawda Shawri was two years old when she was killed by a police officer in 2018, during a police chase involving the vehicle her family was travelling in after fleeing Iraq. HOTM took part in the Justice4Mawda campaign, which included video messages from public figures such as Roger Waters and Ken Loach, a reconstruction animation of the events, and public actions such as hanging children's clothes and messages near courthouses in Flanders and Brussels.
Le Space closed in February 2020. The organization continued under the name Headquarters Of The Movement, and its work grew beyond running a single venue.
In My Name brought together three collectives led by undocumented people who had been campaigning separately for regularization. Together, they collected 35,000 signatures in support of a citizens' law proposal on regularization, submitted to the Belgian parliament.
We Buildt This was a touring festival about the contribution of migrant workers to Belgium. It took place in Ghent, Genk, Antwerp and Brussels.
OIP Sensor Systems is a company in Oudenaarde that supplies optical technology used in weapons systems, including technology reportedly used by the Israeli military. Activists connected to HOTM have taken part in blockades and occupations of the company, and in an action inside the Flemish Parliament concerning the shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping's role in transporting weapons.
Artists4Palestine is a network of people working in art and culture who organize around the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement for Palestinian rights. The network has occupied the KVS theatre in Brussels and protested during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Belgian EU Presidency in Mechelen.
